NEWS: 4th Learning and Exchange Visit in Skopje, North Macedonia

The 4th Learning and Exchange Visit took place in Skopje, North Macedonia (16–18 September 2025), organized byNational Center for Development of Innovation and Entrepreneurial Learning (NCDIEL), bringing together partners, stakeholders, and local actors to explore innovation, sustainability, and green business practices across the Adriatic-Ionian region.

Day 1 (September 16th, 2025) – Industrial Innovation and Sustainability

The programme began with site visits to two  companies that play a big role in North Macedonia’s industrial landscape:

  • Johnson Matthey – Recognised as the largest foreign investment in the local industrial zone since 2009, Johnson Matthey Skopje is a cornerstone of the company’s Clean Air division. The facility focuses on producing advanced automotive components that reduce emissions and contribute to global sustainability goals.
  • Rade Koncar TEP – With more than 65 years of tradition, Rade Koncar TEP is a leader in the metal processing and electrical industry in North Macedonia. The company provides comprehensive solutions in electricity generation, including oil transformers, high voltage equipment, and command switchboards. Emphasising innovation, research, and development, Rade Koncar TEP demonstrates how long-standing expertise can adapt to meet modern sustainability challenges.

Day 2 (September 18th, 2025) – Meeting Local Green Heroes

The second day was dedicated to meeting changemakers and organisations shaping the green transition in the region.

  • EarthCare.ai – A pioneering company that combines AI models with satellite, radar, and weather station data to provide hyper-local forecasts, climate-risk assessments, and ESG compliance solutions for industries such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and real estate.
  • PAKOMAK – A company focused on reducing the environmental impact of packaging waste. By fostering long-term cooperation with both businesses and public institutions, PAKOMAK works in line with EU regulations to improve waste management and enhance quality of life.
  • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Skopje – An excellent example of how educational institutions foster green innovation. Through applied research, strong industry collaboration, and specialised study programmes, the faculty develops green and technical skills essential for sustainable industrial growth.

Strengthening the Green Transition Together

The Skopje visit provided the GREENSMES consortium with valuable insights into industrial innovation, circular economy models, and green entrepreneurship. By connecting industry leaders, educational institutions, and innovative start-ups, the 4th Learning and Exchange Visit showcased the diversity of approaches driving sustainable development in North Macedonia and beyond.
