NEWS: 5th Learning Exchange Visit in Tirana and Durrës, Albania

On 16 December 2025, GREENSMES project partners participated in a Learning Exchange Visits in Tirana and Durrës, aimed at gaining first-hand insights into innovative business practices, sustainable mobility, and environmentally responsible engineering solutions. The programme included site visits to two companies operating at the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and alignment with European standards:

Mercedes-Benz Tirana (Auto Star Albania) – The visit to Mercedes-Benz Tirana, operated by Auto Star Albania, provided participants with an overview of one of Albania’s most advanced automotive facilities. The programme included a tour of the showroom showcasing the latest Mercedes-Benz models, including electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as the service and diagnostics areas equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Discussions with the management team focused on sustainable mobility, workforce training, and the company’s role in supporting the alignment of Albania’s automotive market with European standards.

Maccaferri Balkans – At Maccaferri Balkans, participants explored the operations of a leading regional company in civil engineering and environmental protection. The visit highlighted innovative geotechnical solutions, such as gabions, geogrids, and retaining systems, widely used in major infrastructure projects across Albania. The technical team presented sustainable engineering practices and demonstrated how global expertise is applied at the local level to enhance resilience and support sustainable development.

The Learning Exchange Visit offered valuable insights into practical applications of green innovation and sustainability across different sectors, while fostering knowledge exchange, cooperation, and mutual learning among project partners.
